THE ISSUE.

There are many issues around GMOS themselves and the labeling fiasco. Below are a few interesting facts that have people on their toes wondering what is going on. Hopefully by reading the points below will spark interest in the ideas and views of yourself around the issue of labeling GMOS.

Ice Cream!

Haagen Das, Breyer and Baskin Robins, try to say their ice cream is “All Natural” . This is one of the terms used ALL over the grocery store, but “All Natural”, is not all that natural.

  • The hormone rBHG has been banned in Canada and 27 other countries.

GOOD NEWS:

  • Some our favorite, healthier companies such as Starbucks, Chipotle, Yoplait and Dannon Yogurts prove to have their products rBHG-free.

Monsanto created this rBHG hormone, and marketed this product for quite some time. Why has this rBHG been banned in so many countries, but Americans have yet to consider maybe it is dangerous ?

SOME INTERESTING FACTS

THE DARK SIDE.

From the other side of the issue, companies have made major points as to why labeling SHOULD NOT be enforced.

Biotech supporters believe that issuing labels will

  • Mislead consumers to believe there is something harmful to human health about these genetically modified foods.
  • The issue of labeling will raise the cost of the food

These issues have all been proven wrong. Many polls have shown that over 90% of people would PREFER labeling of genetically modified organisms in our food we consume.

GOOD? BAD? ... WHO SAYS?

Currently the FDA is NOT requiring labels as long as the nutritional content DOES NOT change or they DO NOT add toxic or allergenic properties.

The problem with this is...

The FDA is not the one testing these foods.

They have left ALL independent studies to the seed producers themselves (Monsanto, Dow and DuPont).

Should this be allowed? This tells us that the people we have grown to trust (FDA), is not doing their job when it comes to telling us what is safe and what is not safe.
